Start with Process Data on the Drawing
Most installation sheets fail because they skip process conditions. A drawing for a DN100 electromagnetic flowmeter at a wastewater plant in Perth needs 20 °C, 4 bar, and 0 to 100 m³/h written in the notes block. That line tells the pipe fabricator which spool piece to cut. The same rule applies to a Coriolis meter for a paint manufacturer in Da Nang running at 12 cP. Viscosity and density change the safety factor.

Dimensioning for Specific Flow Meter Types
Electromagnetic flowmeters: Use DN25 to DN1200, PN10 or PN16, rubber or PTFE liner, and 316L electrodes. For water with conductivity above 5 µS/cm, this meter works well. Add a grounding ring if the pipe is lined or plastic. Do not spark test the PTFE liner.

Thermal mass flowmeters: For insertion probes, dimension the insertion depth as pipe ID divided by 2 plus 12 mm. State whether the meter is for natural gas, compressed air, or biogas because gas composition changes the calibration.

Do not scale dimensions from a PDF. Write the actual value in millimetres. Do not show a generic flow element symbol for every technology. A Coriolis meter body is not the same shape as an electromagnetic meter. Do not hide the electrical clearance in a note off the page. Put it on the main view. Do not omit the process connection standard. Tri-clamp, ANSI, DIN, and JIS flanges are not interchangeable.
